ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE

  • AOC Faugères Mas Gabinèle Inaccessible Red 2013 ($125.00) - score 95
Leading off the 2013s, and one of the true superstars in the vintage, the 2013 Faugères Inaccessible is a fabulous mix of 75% Mourvèdre, 18% Syrah and 7% Grenache that spent 16 months in new oak. Its inky purple color is followed by a fabulously pure array of blackberries, spice-box, wild flowers and garrigue. This gives way to a full-bodied, elegant, yet concentrated and hedonistic Faugères that has no hard edges, ripe tannin and a great finish. You can see the cooler nature of the vintage, yet it has terrific ripeness and is a joy to drink. Bravo to the team for this smokin’ effort! Drink: 2016-2028
  • AOC Faugères Mas Gabinèle Rarissime Red 2015 ($55.00) - score 94-96
A smoking good red from the schist soils of the fabulous appellation, the 2015 Faugères Rarissime checks with a mix of 88% Syrah, 6% Grenache and 6% Mourvèdre. It delivers stunning notes of cassis, currants, leather, licorice and spice in a full-bodied, supple, pure and elegant style that carries its weight and richness effortlessly. This is a serious knockout bottle of wine
  • AOC Faugères Mas Gabinèle Rarissime Red 2014 ($55.00) - score 95
A serious effort that has an almost Bordeaux like structure and austerity, the 2014 Faugères Rarissime is made from 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache that saw a long maceration and aging in new oak casks. It’s deep ruby color (it’s almost black at the center), is followed by a rich, layered bouquet of blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, cedary spice and hints of leather. Rich, full-bodied, gorgeously concentrated and textured, with a stacked mid-palate and impeccable balance. I suspect it’s one of the handful of top wines in the vintage! Drink date 2018-2026.
  • AOC Faugères Mas Gabinèle Red 2015 ($27.00) - score 91-93
The classic cuvée from the estate, the 2015 Faugères is an elegant, impressively concentrated blend of 35% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Carignan and the rest Mourvèdre aged in new and once-used oak casks. It has a rich bouquet of blackcurrants, liquorice, toasted spice and leather. Drink date 2017-2025.
  • IGP Pays d’Hérault Mas Gabinèle Rarissime White 2015 ($55.00) - score 92
White peach, white flowers, honeysuckle and orange blossom are just some of the nuances that emerge from this 2015 IGP Pays d’Hérault Rarissime Blanc. Made from 100% Grenache Gris (from very old vines), it’s medium-bodied, elegant and lengthy, with great texture and impeccable balance. Drink over the coming 2-3 years, 2017-2020.
